I truly feel that finding the right hairdresser is just as important as having that perfect little black dress or even marrying the right person! It's scary, stressful, and affects your life more than you'd like to admit =)
Just because some one says they do hair or have their cosmetology license DOES NOT mean they actually know what they are doing or have your best interest at heart. I have met so many hairdressers that don't actually care about their clients and it makes me so angry. All they care about is money. Yes, I'm not working for free, clearly, but I truly care about my clients and want them to be happy and feel beautiful.
Here's when you know you found a great stylist!....
1. They remember your name, (sounds funny but I'm serious) your children's names, and personal stories that you have shared.
2. They are honest with you. You want bangs, most hairdressers say sure lets do it! Change is great! A good stylist will educate you on the commitment of having bangs, how to style them, and if they fit your face and lifestyle before cutting away.
3. Recommend products that are good for your hair and explain why. Most salons encourage their employees to push products on clients, I can't stand this. Sure, there are certain products that are must haves, but you shouldn't feel pressure to buy even when you really don't want to.
4. Sit with you while your color is processing. I think sitting and talking with your clients really shows you care about them. You don't just run off and sit in the back while they sit alone staring int he mirror. It's a great time to get to know each other.
5. You get holiday/birthday cards from your stylist! Not trying to get you in the salon but just a simple letter in the mail saying hey, I thought of you.
6. They explain what they are doing with your hair and why. For example, I'm not using thinning shears on you because you don't need it...this is why.... I'm not pulling your highlight through to your ends... this is why... You seem to have breakage, or a scalp condition... this is why...
When you found a great stylist I think you just know. You should feel comfortable in their chair and you should feel 10x more beautiful leaving then when you came in! I've been in the hair industry 12 years now and I still have people tell me that they would never go to any one else. I've also had people say that I'm the best hairdresser they have ever had. Those comments mean a lot to me because I truly put my clients first and want them to be happy. When you love what you do it shows!
Love these! Totally agree with #6!
